I have recently been to a great pub in Gosforth, Newcastle.
It’s called the The Brandling Villa. (link at bottom of page)
The hole reason for going was that it hand handmade “gourmet
burgers” with funny names.
Now this place is also a dog friendly pub so that meant that
we could be joined by jack (which someone thought was a starved Doberman but is
clearly not), a lovely dog who hyper salivation problem when confronted with car
boots… but that’s another story.
On arriving in the pub I and one of my friends were very
impressed with the amount of ales and the friendly bar staff.
After getting a Pint of Tribute – Cornish pale ale and some
ale for my friend called urban … something or other …. And casually trampling
on someone’s King Charles Cavalier Spaniel crossed with a shiatsu and vacuum cleaner
(well, maybe that’s what the owner said), we went to sit down and look at the
menu.
Let me just start by saying that the pub serves more than
just burgers but that’s not what I was concerning myself with at the time.
The burgers were named follows:
The classic
The rise of Fernando Torres
The David Dickinson
The Beef Chegwin
The Berliner
The Jerry Springer
The angry Susan The Chicken Classic
The Angela Lansbury
The Porco Rosso
… actually I think I have a picture of part of the menu. I’ll
put it up but I warn you it is blurred.
They cost between £7.95 and £9.75 and come with thick homemade chips and are served on what looks like an extremely flat, shallow, brown, wooden canoe.
Out of four of us (not including Jack the dog) only one person opted to have a non burger
pie type affair which though it looked and smelled nice was not a burger with a
silly name! I remember nothing about it apart that it came with peas. The dog
himself was denied burgers on the grounds that he has no opposable thumbs so he
couldn’t eat a burger properly… and that he’s a dog.
The burgers had were The Angela Lansbury, The Beef Chegwin and the Porco Rosso.
I had to try the Angela Lansbury.
80z handmade burger, fresh salad, Swiss cheese, grilled pineapple
and a free range poached egg.
It was amazing!
Great flavours, ingredients cooked just
right and not oozing with grease. Plus proper chips.
In fact the only complaint was from Jack the dog who wanted
to explore the entire pub and be fed with other peoples meals!
I’d say this is possibly one of the best pubs I’ve been in
for some time but what’s not to like about a nice, friendly good looking pub
with amazing food and drink and dogs!
I just wish I lived closer and didn’t have to travel about an
hour to get there.
